Under the Greener Homes Grant Program, solar panels qualify for a rebate of $1,000/kW ($1.00/W), with a maximum rebate amount of $5,000. In most cases, homes will be limited by and receive the federal rebate cap of $5,000 for solar panel installations.

For battery energy storage systems, they can be included under the Resiliency Measures category and qualify for a $1,000 incentive. However, it's important to note that the $5,000 cap for rebates still applies to all eligible measures, including battery energy storage systems.

Procedure for Grants and Loans

Free Evaluation for Solar Installations in Quebec

Step 1

1 month to visit

Before starting your project, fill out the online appointment request form. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email ( you can see the screenshot below).
Upon receipt of your request, the organization offering the Rénoclimat program in your region will contact you to schedule your first appointment.

All home energy evaluation visits are free of charge, including subsequent evaluations.

Step 2

A Rénoclimat energy advisor comes to your home to perform a pre-retrofit energy evaluation. Take advantage of the visit to discuss your solar project.
Your advisor will calculate your home's EnerGuide rating and send you an evaluation report with energy-saving recommendations.
Planning to apply for a loan for your solar installation from the Canada Loan for Greener Homes? You must submit your loan application before you begin the project for which you are seeking a loan.

Step 3

Carry out your energy-efficient renovation or have it carried out. Use the recommendations in the evaluation report to guide you through the work.

Step 4

Once you've completed the work, fill out the online appointment request form.

Upon receipt of your request, a Rénoclimat advisor will contact you to schedule a post-retrofit energy evaluation of your home. He/she will visit your home to evaluate the improvements made and calculate your new EnerGuide rating.

Step 5

10 to 12 weeks to receive cheque

If you are eligible and have sent in your Social Insurance Number (SIN) or Quebec Business Number (NEQ), your Renoclimat financial assistance cheque will be mailed to you 10 to 12 weeks after the evaluation of your home's work.
